Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant is a key member of the clinical team, the Medical Assistant is involved in a wide range of tasks which includes administrative, front office, scribe and clinical activities. The Medical Assistant provides assistance to the physician and advance practice practitioners in delivering clinical services and promoting health and wellness. The Medical Assistant ensures that the clinic has supplies and resources to run efficiently and must manage the flow of patient services efficiently. The Medical Assistant will understand the work environment of the Health Center in order to meet the needs of the members and their families to facilitate the timeliness and appropriate scheduling of services required.

  • Implementing nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Schedule and manage all patient appointments and the required skills and capabilities to effectively manage the appointment process.
  • Checking patients in/out.
  • Providing education to patients and family.
  • Setting up procedures
  • Preparing patient and provider for procedures.
  • Working with potential high risk ill patients
  • Performing daily required QA of CLIA waived lab testing equipment and maintaining up to date logs
  • Using computers and related software applications
  • Communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties
  • Efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
  • Performing CLIA waived tests as relevant to the position
  • May be required to provide assistance to more than 1 provider at a given time.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Current standards of medical and health care
  • Must be proficient in documenting in the electronic medical record
  • Limitations of the scope of practice
  • Department and Health Center safety practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Patient rights
  • Infection control policies and practices
  • Use and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Department emergency response policies and procedures
  • Age specific patient care practices
  • Knowledge of how to use general office equipment including, but not limited to: facsimiles, copiers, telephones and computers.
  • Minimum level computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment:
  • Bi- or Multi- lingual skills (written and verbal): Preferred

Abilities:

  • Manage competing deadlines and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment; stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time; vision to read instruments, printed materials and various electronic screens and monitors; hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone; strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Education: High School or Equivalent

Certification: Certification from an accredited school offering post-secondary programs for medical assistants: CMA-AAMA, RMA-AMT. National Certification from one of the five medical assistant programs accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, part of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT); National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Health Career Association (NHA); Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT); Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) from the National Heath Career Association (NHA)

Minimum Years’ Experience: More than 1 year

Other Requirements: Preferred Certifications: Phlebotomy, EKG.CPR Required
