Responsibilities

The phone representatives will be the first point of contact for all participants via phone and will works in a call center setting; confirming patient's eligibility, scheduling patients for appointments; and answering patient's questions. Provides a consistent superior customer experience in accordance with the center mission and vision

  • Answers patients direct questions
  • Confirms patients availability
  • Schedules appointments correctly-review appointment date, time, location, and provider name with caller
  • Act as a liaison for the patients and the Health Center. Direct calls to other departments as needed.
  • Answer telephone promptly and in a polite professional manner
  • Use sound judgement in handling calls, especially with upset patients. Understanding of when to escalate calls
  • Make calls to reschedule appointments when necessary
  • Experience using standard office equipment such as phones, copiers and facsimiles
  • Strong typing and ten key (Must be able to type 40 words per minute)
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions
  • Effective, efficient and safe use of equipment
  • Acts as the positive “face” of the Health Center as the main point of contact for participants and families
  • Provides benefit plan and eligibility information to participants, providers, unions, employers and others
  • Provides proactive education to participants by phone
  • Performs research on benefit issues and initiates corrective action
  • Other duties as assigned within the Health Center.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Strong customer service and oral communication skills
  • Performing basic mathematical computations
  • Using standard office equipment such as phones, copiers and facsimiles
  • Typing and ten key
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties;
  • Communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions
  • Effective, efficient and safe use of equipment.
  • Office and call center theories and principles; basic math; medical and insurance terminology;
  • Department and health center safety practices and procedures;
  • Patient rights
  • Infection control policies and practices, handling and storage
  • Department and health center emergency response practices

Abilities:

  • Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use of standard equipment
  • Stamina to remain seated and maintains concentration for extended periods of time
  • Vision to read instruments, printed materials, and various electronic screens and monitors
  • Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.

 

Education: High School or Equivalent

Minimum Years’ Experience: More than one (1) year working in a health care environment.
