    The position is to be a resource for participants, the Union and for internal Fund staff who are seeking assistance with regard to navigating and understanding the complex health system, assisting with understanding the “participant’s point of view” and communicating benefits and wellness.

    Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilites:

    • Conducts on-site Advocacy at the Union, in the Culinary Pharmacy and at various properties in order to educate participants, employers, and Union staff on the Fund’s benefits, eligibility rules and programs
    • Participates in health fairs, benefit education programs, enrollment activities, surveys and other in-service activities as required
    • Educates, motivates and recruits participants regarding participation in Fund programs designed to improve health outcomes
    • Provides input to management regarding concerns identified through various interactions with participants
    • Assists with the identification of participants requiring follow-up services
    • Conducts Home Visits to participants
    • Assists participants with questions/concerns in person, email and phone
    • Assists with complaint resolutions
    • Input data into various databases
    • Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the job




    • Bi- or Multi- lingual skills (written and verbal): Preferred
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-faced environment
    • Possess an intermediate level of computer proficiency within a Microsoft Office environment; Data entry skills including alpha-numeric and drop down options
    • Excellent communication and listening skills

    Ability to: 

    • Quickly establish and maintain strong relationships with participants based on mutual respect and trust
    • Show participants compassion and empathy; balance compassion and empathy with Fund business objectives
    • Work outside traditional office hours as needed (for example evenings and weekends)
    • Exercise discretion and judgment when providing guidance to individuals with respect to their healthcare options
    • Ability to “download” and transcribe pertinent information on participant issues
    • Lift up to 20 pounds
    • Manage competing deadlines and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
    • Perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations 

    Education: High School or Equivalent

    License: Valid Driver’s License and current car insurance

    Certification Required: N/A

    Minimum Years’ Experience: 3 or more in a health care field and/or customer service type environment.

    Other Requirements: Experience working in the hospitality/food service industry preferred Familiarity with the participants’ cultural traditions and life experiences strongly desired Experience working with low-income and immigrant communities desired Knowledge of health care benefits/programs, eligibility and plan design preferred Knowledge of Union environment preferred Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
