This position is responsible for performing compliance audits of employer contributions in accordance with approved guidelines and policies.  Will work with the employer and the local union to resolve audit issues and assist the Trustees in fulfilling their fiduciary responsibilities to safeguard the assets of the Funds.


Planning the Audit

  • Reviews terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Reviews previous audit files and identify potential issues
  • Communicates with employers, local unions, and other departments during the audit engagement
  • Sets up the accumulation forms for fieldwork
  • Sets up the test of reported contributions work paper
  • Determines if audit is candidate for a limited or a waived scope audit
  • Completes all pre-audit work papers and correspondence in compliance with the Audit Program


Perform Compliance Audit

  • Performs detailed verification and analysis of employer records
  • Investigates any unreasonable areas that have been identified, and expands audit if necessary
  • Documents results and conclusions
  • Prepares a report of findings
  • Discusses areas of error and improvement with employers


Evaluate and Resolve Disputes

  • Educates employers on correct reporting procedures and documents required to be maintained
  • Identifies legal issues and prepares and submits requests for legal opinions
  • Works with employers and local unions to achieve resolution of audit issues



Years of Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting with two years related experience in accounting or
  • 5+ years related experience in accounting

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience required
  • PHR or other professional or industry-related certification desired


Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills
  • Maintains high levels of confidentiality
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Must acquire working knowledge of the Audit Department’s policies and procedures within one year of employment.
