    Responsibilities

    The purpose of this position is to be a resource/medical interpreter for participants and the CHC Urgent Care (USACS) during off hours (nights and weekends). The goal is to assist participants’ understanding of their health care needs and ensure clear health communication tools are being utilized by the medical staff within urgent care so that the experience each participant receives exceeds their expectations.

     

    ***Schedule will be Friday through Monday (Afternoon/Evening) shift, to be determined by buisness need. ***

     

    • Medical interpreting utilizing clear health communication tools
    • Conducts Advocacy within the Urgent care in order to educate participants and providers on the Fund’s benefits, eligibility rules and programs
    • Ability to work a night and weekend schedule
    • Provides input to management and the Urgent care team regarding concerns identified through various interactions with participants
    • Educates, motivates and recruits participants regarding participation in Fund programs designed to improve health outcomes
    • Act as a resource person in health education. Select and/or assist in the developing and maintaining educational resources on health and wellness topics for dissemination
    • Assists with the identification of participants requiring follow-up services
    • Assists with complaint resolutions for Urgent Care
    • Serves as a back-up advocate when needed
    • Input data into various databases
    • Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the job
    • Bi- or Multi- lingual skills (written and verbal): one of which must be English (required); the second of which must be Spanish (required) Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-faced environment
    • Possess an intermediate level of computer proficiency within a Microsoft Office environment; Data entry skills including alpha-numeric and drop down options
    • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the job
    • Performs Essential Job Functions and Duties with or without reasonable accommodation

    Qualifications

    Years of Experience and Knowledge

    • 3 ~ 5 years of related experience minimum
    • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
    • Working knowledge and experience in a health care field and/or customer service type environment.
    • 1-2 years of experience working with a wellness program
    • Experience working in the hospitality/food service industry preferred
    • Familiarity with the participants’ cultural traditions and life experiences preferred
    • Experience working with low-income and immigrant communities preferred
    • Knowledge of health care benefits/programs, eligibility and plan design preferred
    • Knowledge of Union environment preferred

    Education, Licenses, and Certifications

    • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience required
    • Spanish Medical Interpreter Certification preferred
    • High School or equivalent required

    Skills and Abilities

    • Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
    • Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills
    • Quickly establish and maintain strong relationships with participants based on mutual respect and trust
    • Show participants compassion and empathy; balance compassion and empathy with Fund business objectives
    • Work outside traditional office hours as needed (for example evenings and weekends)
    • Exercise discretion and judgment when providing guidance to individuals with respect to their healthcare options
    • Ability to “download” and transcribe pertinent information on participant issues
    • Lift up to 20 pounds
    • Manage competing deadlines and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
